We conducted online chemistry tuition lessons during the circuit breaker period, but has since opened up for regular classes. Should there be another circuit breaker period, we are well ready to switch back to online lessons.
We have closely followed MOE’s guidelines on Safe Management Measures to ensure our teachers and students are able to learn in a safe environment.
More information on the Safe Management Measures can be found here
A good 1-1 chemistry tutor typically costs between $90-120/hr, but our group classes are more affordable.
Here are some key differences we would like to highlight about the differences between Combined and Pure Chemistry
Type of Questions
The type and way of questioning is vastly different between Pure Chemistry and Combined Chemistry. Combined Chemistry questions are very straightforward and could be quite predictable over the years. Pure Chemistry requires students to apply what they have learned through many scenario-based questions, often requiring them to analyze the questions deeply to answer.
E.g, for a question on Chemical bonding, in Combined Chemistry, students would be given straightforward questions like “Explain in terms of structure and bonding, why sodium chloride has higher mp/bp than chlorine” but in Pure Chemistry, students would be given data on various kinds of ionic and covalent substances (some that they have not seen before) and apply what they have learnt to be able to make sense of the data.
Answering techniques
Due to the nature of Combined Chemistry questionsbeing straightforward, fewer answering techniques are needed for the whole two years of the syllabus. However, for Pure Chemistry, every topic has at least two answering techniques to learn.
Hacks to score
Due to the reasons stated above, the hacks to score for Combined Chemistry are different for Pure Chemistry, and our teachers are trained to teach different hacks to students depending on their levels and lessons that they sign up for, as we do not believe in a one size fit all for Chemistry.
Our mission in Bright Culture is to make learning effective and easy for our students, as we understand that time and resources are crucial for both students and parents. And we are very driven and dedicated to making sure that the lessons that our students attend really can cater to and accelerate their learning.
Subject Based Banding (SBB) is when NA or NT students take up the Express pure or combine chemistry
All our Lower Secondary Science and O & A Level Chemistry classes are group classes. We don’t have 1-1 classes at the moment.
Yes! Our classes are suitable for both IP students and O Level students.
Our resources have been prepared with higher-order/application thinking questions to cater to IP students. Our teachers have experience in the IP syllabus, and we have students in the IP stream!
Students can attend other available time slots within the same week (mon-sun). They will receive a Class Schedule on their onboarding message, which they can refer to anytime.
Students can watch the recorded lesson the next day after 6 PM! (For weekend classes, it would be available on Monday after 6 PM)
All our past lessons have been recorded and uploaded on the learning portal. Students can access it to catch up on the lessons that they have missed out.
For specific lessons that they require to catch up on, they can check on the Academic Curriculum + Calendar Dates [found on their onboarding message] to look for the specific lessons on the learning portal.
Students are required to purchase past terms of materials. Hence they would have the necessary materials to catch up on as well!
Students can post questions on classdojo if they have any doubts/queries for our teachers to assist them too
Students can also lookout for our Key Concept Lessons (S3/S4) or our Crash Course Holiday Programme (signature holiday lessons) to recap on the past lessons that they have missed out as well!
Our practical lessons are usually held during the June Holidays and a few weeks prior to the actual O Level Chemistry Lab Examinations. Lab lessons are not included in our regular lessons. They are payable separately.
We have yet to finalize the schedule but we can keep you posted once the schedule has been confirmed
Just to share more information about our practical lab lessons:
- We are NEA Approved
- Its held at Novena Centre
- We conduct Titration and QA experiments
- Each experiment is 2 hours
- Students can choose to attend both experiments or choose either one
We currently do not conduct practical lessons for S1 and S2 students.
Our lab lessons are primarily for S3 and S4 students
However, during our regular lessons, our teachers do show and conduct tiny experiments for our students. They would at times be given chances to carry out the experiment as well.
