In this video, chemistry tuition teacher teaches us what are the important redox reactions. For this chapter, we just need to know one part. You decide on reduction, or oxidation as they are just opposite.
So if you are able to spot factors or signs that it is a reduction reaction, then you will know oxidation as it is just opposite.
How do you tell if something is oxidised?
What are the signs? What are the factors?
There are four points.
Check the oxidation number/oxidation state. If the number increases, it oxidises.
If something gains oxygen, that means it oxidises.
If something loses hydrogen, that means it oxidises.
If it loses an electron, it oxidises.
